About the Commission

The Lancet Commission on Peaceful Societies through Health Equity and Gender Equality is an independent and interdisciplinary initiative of 20 Commissioners and other collaborators, originally set up in 2019 to explore the untapped intersections between Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 for health and well-being, SDG 5 on gender equality, and SDG 16 for peace, justice, and strong institutions.

The Commission's report launch

Since its launch in 2019, the Commission’s work has culminated in the creation of a report examining if and how improvements in health equity and gender equality can lead to more peaceful societies. The Commission launched its report at an online event co-sponsored by The Lancet and the Wilson Center on September 7th 2023, in the run-up to the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
